About the Triple Point Blog

​Welcome to Triple Point, an independent blog about shock wave science and its history.  It is named after a "triple point", the place at which 3 shock waves interact in the presence of a boundary.  In keeping with this theme of 3's, the goal of the triple point blog is to bring together: 

(1) Stories from the history of shock wave science
(2) Contemporary shock wave research
(3) Anyone with scientific passion and curiosity    

​The systematic study of shock waves began with the curiosity of a few determined scientists -- some of them operating at times as "gentleman scientists".  This blog is inaugurated in the spirit of those early independent thinkers whose drive to understand whether nature allows abrupt discontinuities ("Natura Non Facit Altum ?) led to the foundations of our current understanding.
